Black Swan

  • Cygnus Atratus

They have the plumage of the whole body black and the beak of red color, another big difference with the rest of members of the family that usually have the tip of a yellowish or orange color. When they are small, the pups have white feathers, but at 6 months of age the black feathers start to come out.

The nesting of this species takes place in the rainy season, nesting in colonies composed of thousands of couples. The nests are built close to each other, on small islands or islets, although they can also do so on aquatic vegetation. It is an open platform that can measure up to two meters in diameter and one meter in height.
