The male has a green crown, a blue throat, purple violet collar, a green mantle with small stripes on the lower part; the back and rump green, nuanced in olive green or light gray; rectrices dark olive with black and pink on the edges. The light gray covert with a greenish-blue tint, most marked with chestnut; the flight feathers as in the common pheasants. Strong and gray legs with spur. Light colored eye.

The female basically brown, has the dark part of the feathers of the mantle of black color and becomes the edges in paler brown, the legs are strong to be females.
