These birds generally rest on trees; the greatest activity of these is in the mornings and at dusk, the rest of the day they take refuge. They are gregarious and move in small groups of 7 or 8 individuals; the males are polygamous and mate with 2 or up to 5 females, these remain under the control of the male for a year in a typical harem.

The males are territorial and defend the territory based on gorgoreos, songs and rapidly moving their wings. The mating season is at the beginning of April. In captivity they get to put from 4 to 14 eggs with an incubation period of 25 to 26 days, where the male does not take part in this activity and only visits the nest 2 or 3 times a day during the whole incubation. The first two weeks the female is the one in charge of taking care of the chicks, after this time the offspring are already independent and that is when the female integrates them to the group, and she joins again to the harem of the male along with the others females At the age of two the pups already have an adult plumage and are sexually mature.
